Three Lines Were Marked on the Slip. Only the First One Was Needed - and It Was Worth €111.5 Million

The EuroMillions Europot had survived nine attempts without anyone matching it. By Friday 11 September 2026 it had climbed past €111 million. That evening one slip, handed in in Salzburg, matched five numbers and both Lucky Stars - and did not have to share with anyone.

The winning ticket was an ordinary Normalschein with three lines filled in. As the operator pointed out afterwards, the other two were never needed: the very first line already carried the "5 plus 2 correct". What did matter was a different box on the same slip. The ticket had been entered for a run of two draws, and nothing happened in the first one. The win came in the second.

The Austrian Lotteries announced the figure on the Saturday morning: not a rounded €111.5 million but €111,516,282, down to the euro. It is only the third time a nine-figure lottery prize has gone to Austria, and it ranks third in the 40-year history of the company.

First place belongs to a win2day user who took €250 million in March 2025 - the outright record. Second is another win2day user, who won exactly €240 million in December 2023. The Salzburg result is the first Europot win in Austria in roughly a year and a half, and the twentieth time in total that the top prize has landed in the country.

The most unusual round in the Austrian record books was August 2023, when 38 players holding a shared syndicate ticket split a €72 million Europot between them. Depending on how many shares each held, they walked away with between €1.15 million and €5.73 million. Beyond those 38, another 44 Austrians have won seven-figure sums through EuroMillions - either on "5 plus 2" or on "5 plus 1" - which brings the country's total to 82 EuroMillions millionaires.

EuroMillions has now produced 78 wins of €100 million or more since it began. On that Europe-wide list, the Salzburg ticket comes in 64th.

The winning combination was 1, 7, 15, 39 and 50, with Lucky Stars 1 and 11. EuroMillions launched in 2004 across France, Spain, England, Austria, Belgium, Ireland, Luxembourg, Portugal and Switzerland under the slogan "become richer than rich". The formula is five numbers from 50 plus two from 12, the top tier is called the Europot in Austria, and a line costs €2.50. Draws are held on Tuesday and Friday, with the Austrian cut-off at 20:00 on the day of the draw.

EuroMillions tickets are sold in the nine participating countries in licensed outlets, through each operator's app and, in Austria, through the win2day site. Players elsewhere can use a licensed lottery courier, which buys an official ticket on your behalf and holds it securely. Must be 18 or over.
