Powerball Crosses the Atlantic: the UK Joins the Jackpot for the First Time

Powerball tickets went on sale in the United Kingdom on July 21, 2026, and the drawing the following night, on July 22, was the first in the game''s history in which players outside the United States were eligible to win the grand prize. It is the first time a non-U.S. lottery contributes to the Powerball jackpot, the result of an agreement between the Multi-State Lottery Association and Allwyn UK that was first announced in April 2026.

Adding the UK National Lottery brings the total to 49 lotteries pooling funds for the Powerball jackpot. For U.S. players, the essentials are unchanged: a $2 ticket, jackpot odds of 1 in 292.2 million, overall odds of 1 in 24.9, and drawings every Monday, Wednesday and Saturday at 10:59 p.m. ET from Florida. Tickets bought in the UK contribute to the jackpot pool only and carry a separate lower-tier prize structure. More than half of every U.S. ticket still stays in the jurisdiction where it is sold.

Officials say a larger international player base should push jackpots higher, faster. ''More players means faster-growing jackpots, more excitement and even greater impact for the communities we serve,'' said Rebecca Paul, president and CEO of the Tennessee Lottery. Allwyn CEO Andria Vidler said the arrival would let National Lottery players dream bigger while supporting good-cause projects across the UK.

No one won the top prize in that historic first drawing on July 22, and the jackpot - estimated at roughly $567 million - rolled to the next draw. Since 1992, Powerball says it has generated an estimated $38 billion for good causes such as education, scholarships and veteran services.
